Sustainable Sewing – produce bags

In the ongoing fight against waste plastic, more and more supermarkets are abolishing the clear plastic bags we are so used to putting our fresh produce in.

It’s time to fight back against the plastic and take our own produce bags shopping with us. And what’s even better is they are super easy to make.

These bags are made from polyester mesh and nylon ripstop and are washable (just in case those potatoes have more mud than you bargained for). Super light (so you don’t get charged any extra for weight). And really, really easy to make.

During the class, you will receive instruction to make 1 bag and then be able to make as many more as you can within the given 2-hour time slot. (they are super easy and fast to sew up). You will receive an instruction sheet enabling you to make a small and large size bag and it’s up to you what size you choose to make in class.

Pupils are required to bring 1 pack of polyester mesh in the colour of your choice (or an old net curtain) and a minimum of 3 metres of cotton cord (each bag uses approx 1.5metres) All materials (available in our Amazon shop HERE) all other materials are provided.

(Please note amazon links are affiliate links. Whilst it will cost you no more to purchase from these links, Beautiful Things does gain a small commission which we put towards our running costs).

PLEASE NOTE: If you take this course with us in-person you will also receive access to the online version where you can see our full video tutorial and download PDF instructions to make more bags.
