Sew an NCW with Sian from Kittenish Behaviour

Beautiful Things are delighted to be welcoming back the wonderful Sian from the Kittenish Behaviour channel to BTHQ for an entire weekend!

During the 2 days you will learn how to cut, sew and construct your very own Necessary Clutch Wallet a.k.a The NCW.  Sian has become somewhat of an aficionado of the infamous purse designed by Emmaline Bags.

In Sians words “These purses are amazing; there are twelve card slots, two zipped pouches, sleeves for cash, room in the middle for your Smartphone and enough room leftover for your favorite lippy!”

The twist lock closure makes sure everything remains safe and secure.  Plus you can add either a wrist strap, a shoulder strap or both to make your new purse incredible versatile.

All of the hardware to make the bag (Silver), the pattern and interfacing will be provided for you on this occasion.  You will need to provide your fabric & zips (details of this are given at the bottom of the page).

The workshop will commence at 9.30am on Saturday and continue until 5pm.  On the Sunday we will commence at the slightly later time of 10am and continue until approx 4pm or until we are finished up.

Please bring a packed lunch with you on both days, tea & coffee are available all day long and is included in the cost of your class.  If you are travelling and staying in a hotel without access to your car then we can arrange to get you a packed lunch on your way into the studio.

As we are opening our second craft studio to accommodate an additional 5 sewists there are only 7 machine spaces available.  If you have your own sewing machine and are happy to bring it, please book a non machine space saving the machines we have available for those travelling from further afield or by public transport.  All you need to bring is your fabric, some tools (we have enough in house for you to borrow if you are travelling a fair distance) and yourself!

Places are limited to 12 so we advise you to book in plenty of time.

Fabric requirements:

For your first NCW (believe me you will make more) please bring a QUILTING COTTON for BOTH the exterior and interior as this is the easiest fabric to make your first bag with. Please choose a NON DIRECTIONAL PRINT for you first bag too, Sian has a step by step sew-a-long on her YouTube channel that will talk you through using a directional print but for your first NCW lets makes things as easy as possible!
Please bring:
AT LEAST 50cm x full width of fabric of your exterior fabric.
AT LEAST 50cm x full width of fabric of your lining fabric.
AT LEAST 50cm x full width of fabric for interior pockets.
2 x 8” Dress Zips
We will be providing all the hardware and interfacing you’ll need.
Please bring:
Pins or/and Wonder Clips (wonder clips really will be your friend and are worth investing in we sell these in house at the studio if you require some)
Frixion pen or fabric marker of your choice
12” x 6” Quilting Ruler if you have one (Again super useful and worth investing in we also sell these in the studio)
Sharp scissors or snips & Fabric scissors.

Finer details

Should you wish to stay in the hotel for either 1,2 or 3 nights then we would like to recommend the travel lodge in West Horndon.  The hotel is approx 5 minutes away from the studio by car or in a taxi and we will do our best to ensure everyone who needs to be at the studio can be ferried about so that they are in the right place at the right time even if that means we have to book you all a joint taxi if you are in the hotel.  These are fine details and can be arranged for you by Claire nearer the time.  There is plenty of free parking at BTHQ for anyone who drives.  We will be arranging an evening get together on the Saturday night at the pub next door to the hotel so it’s a good choice and very reasonably priced.  Their family rooms sleep up to 4 (1 x double bed & 2 full sized single beds) and are great for groups of friends to share the cost.
