Wed 3rd & 17th July (9.30 -16.00)
This course is designed for beginners to tackle their first patchwork quilt. As long as you can sew in a straight line you are good to go.
We will teach you the popular rail fence quilt method and teach you how to make 12 lovely quilt blocks, join them all together, back your quilt, quilt your quilt and bind your quilt.
These techniques are just the basics but enough to get you started. Once you’ve learnt this method you can go on to learn lots of new block designs but the joining, quilting and binding techniques are all the same!
Pupils will need 1 metre of 100% quilting cotton for backing and binding.
6 fat quarters of quilting cotton for your main design. You can choose to do all patterned or a mix of pattern and plain like we have on our sample. (If you wish to do this then you will need 3 plain and 3 patterned).
2 reels of cotton 1 in a colour that will co-ordinate with all your prints and 1 that matches your binding. We recommend Moon threads by coats which is available in most haberdashery stores.
The course is split across 2 sessions to allow you plenty of time to complete your quilt. The finished size is cot/lap size.
