After School Sewing Club
Got a passion for fashion, or simply love sewing and textiles?
Want to get ahead of the class and WOW your teachers?
All sewing projects have different skills and techniques required in order to complete them appropriately, this series of classes will help to develop your skills in a variety of techniques that will not only prepare you for school projects but whatever you decide to work on next.
Each week you’ll be shown 1 technique broken down from preparation to completion and supported through each step at your own pace. You’ll able to produce up to 2 squares in a session and work towards putting them all together as a bag or cushion.
A selection of skills and techniques include:
Pleats and Gathers
2 different types of Appliqué
1 pack of fat quarters (5/6 fabrics)
1 metre of a plain cotton fabric to co-ordinate with your fat quarters (used for backing and accents)
Cushion inner 15″ or up to 40cm square
Choose to book into as many sessions per term as you wish, there is no need to commit to the entire course. Each week you will complete 1-2 squares and learn new techniques. As each pupil will work at their own pace how quickly they produce enough squares for a cushion or bag will be determined on an individual basis but we expect this to be a minimum or 4-6 sessions for a simple bag or cushion and anything up to 8 weeks for a completed and more detailed project.
Date are online on a Half Termly basis. The club will only run during term time.
Your tutor is a fully qualified Secondary & Further Education tutor whose skills are current in the fashion and textiles curriculum. This course will support any pupil studying GCSE textiles or any child who simply wishes to learn to sew.
Parents do not have to stay whilst their children are in class but are welcome to make use of the lounge area and enjoy free wifi and a cup of tea or coffee if they wish to wait.
