Have you just bought or are in possession of an overlocker/serger and have no idea what to do with it? Maybe you can use it to serge the raw edges of your sewing but that’s about it?
An overlocker can be a scary beast and threading them can seem like a very daunting task but rest assured by the end of this 1 day workshop you will LOVE your overlocker.
Our tutor Pauline is a fully qualified Adult Education tutor who has been teaching people how to love their overlockers for a very long time. Under her guidance you will learn how to thread the machine from scratch, establish the correct tensions and adjust the various number of knobs and dials to create perfect serging depending what materials you are using.
Learn about the correct threads and needles to be using for your projects, how to turn a corner correctly, go round in a circle and work on some decorative finishes such as rolled hems, gathers, decorative tucks and lettuce edging. You will also work with stretch fabrics and fleece, learning how to attach neck bands and cuffs. As well as adding elastic, and lace to your fabrics with the overlocker.
Lastly you will learn how to maintain your overlocker and keep it in tip top condition.
You will leave with a full portfolio of samples, printed instruction sheets and itching to go home and make the most of your new found skills.
Pupils will need to bring:
Overlocker, foot pedal and manual, ½ metre of light weight calico for samples / practice, 4 cones of overlocker thread in the colour of your choice, a packed lunch.
Tea & Coffee will be available to you all day.
PLEASE NOTE – 1 day classes are 10.00am – 4pm at a weekend (allowing 1/2 hour for lunch) Please arrive from 9.30am to allow time to set up your overlocker before class starts at 10am.
